Is your chalet   ‘ski in \ ski out’?

We have decided not to advertise our apartments as ‘ski in / ski out’ because we don’t want to disappoint.  Our chalet is one of the closest chalets to the piste in Montchavin and for a large part of the season an intermediate/ confident skier can put their skis on at the door and ski down the 40 meter path that is at the edge of the garden and join the blue run to the chairlift.  When conditions are good it is also possible to ski back, we do this for a large part of the season but it does depend on snow conditions.

What are the snow conditions early and late season?

The resort of La Plagne is one of the highest resorts in the Europe and opens its lifts to holidaymakers from middle of December until late April every year. This coming season will be the sixth winter we have personally spent here and we have always been able to ski back home throughout the season. Even in a worse case scenario sometimes conditions may be 'better' further up the mountain or over in Les Arcs, but you can always get a ski lift there, no need for buses. .

We are a party of single sex 18-25 year olds looking for a lively inexpensive ski holiday - is this the right place?

No. Montchavin is a family resort it has two bars and around 7-10 village restaurants and one night club.  Our apartments are primarily designed for extended family groups of mixed ages and for those who want to enjoy a quite relaxing holiday.

Why is the Hot tub and sauna not available to persons under the age of sixteen?

We decided when designing the hot tub and sauna area that we wanted a space for adults to relax and unwind . Having two children of our own we understand the attraction of water but have decided that this is a strict policy for the benefit of the adult guests.  Maybe the children can watch a DVD play on the WII or sledge in the garden whilst Mum and Dad relax with bubbles!!

Is the hot tub and sauna shared and how are they supervised?

The hot tub and sauna are shared between the two rental apartments in the chalet. These are available between 4pm and 8pm every evening.  Every day they are cleaned and chemically tested to ensure proper hygiene standards. We are looking at putting a booking board in the hot tub area so each apartment can block out half hour\hour sections of time to ensure private use.
For security and monitoring reasons we have installed a camera to monitor the hot tub area.  It will also be locked outside the times booked. 

What happens if we have a problem with the accommodation during our stay?

During your stay it’s important to us that we are providing an excellent standard of accommodation.  We have given as much accurate information as possible about our chalet and our village in our website to help all our guests make the right choice. 
If any issues arise during your stay no matter how small, we provide various options to contact us depending on its urgency to you.  You can choose to:

1. Text US via sms message e.g. bulb has gone in toilet bellecote apartment.
2. Email us we check our emails every hour or so.
3. Telephone us we are situated in the same building so should be able to help quickly
4. Nock on our door if you have an emergency. (i.e.Can’t find the bottle opener!!)

We will always resolve issues as soon as possible and keep you informed of the outcome.

What happens if somebody falls ill or injures themselves during your stay?

Montchavin\Les Coches has a good medical centre and an English speaking doctor who is used to dealing with winter injuries and general illness.  We provide the telephone number as well as location and opening time in the information pack in the apartments.   If you require any assistance during your stay we understand how stressful this can be so please telephone us and we will do all we can to help.

One of our party doesn’t like skiing much what else is there to do during the day?

OK..... it’s a surprise to us avid skiers that it’s possible to enjoy our mountain without skis or a board on . Here are just a few suggestions on how to enjoy this fantastic part of the world without careering down a mountain!!!!

1. New indoor fitness and swimming pool just 10 minute walk away.
2. Ice rink in Les Coches 15 -20 minute walk or one bubble ski lift away.
3. Nature trail walks and snow shoeing organised by local tourist office.
4. Cross country lessons and trails.
5. Good pedestrian access to lifts so you can meet up with family for a picnic or at a mountainside restaurant.
6. During the season we often take a lift up the mountain and follow numerous well sign posted routes back to the village. (you can hire snow shoes in the village)
7. Relax in the garden.  Our chalet has a lovely quiet garden and some spectacular views so you could just sit back and relax - you are on holiday after all.
8. Free shuttle bus service so you can explore the shops and bars of Les Coches and Montchavin
9. Just a short drive away is the Vanoise National Park. This has truly amazing views and scenery  and wildlife.   I regularly see Chamoix and Marmotts...

We are thinking of getting the Eurostar or travelling by train, would you recommend this?

YES....... When we lived in the UK we tried all travel methods and found the train to be by far the most relaxing. You can either get the direct Eurostar service to Bourg St Maurice or Eurostar to Paris and the overnight sleeper service to Bourg St Maurice. Depending on your group size and the dates please ask as we may be able to collect you from the station if you choose to travel by train.

Otherwise a local company called 'Coolbus' is an excellent option.

Do we need a car when we are here?

A car is a convenient luxury for any independent ski holiday.  It is by no means essential as shopping can be done locally in the well equipped supermarket and local shops you will find most things available without having to drive anywhere.   To avoid the walk back to the chalet with heavy shopping bags there is a regular shuttle bus service from the village centre.  However, as with every resort you can expect to pay 20-30% more in the local supermarket than in the larger supermarkets on the valley floor.  If you are driving out try to stop off before you arrive to stock up on your essentials or better still bring your favourites from home.
Guests often find they don’t use their car at all during their stay with us.

 We have a disabled/elderly member of our party, is your accommodation suitable?

A person who finds flights of steps difficult may struggle with the steps to the property. We don’t have roadside access from the chalet so wheelchair and other mobility aids may prove difficult.

We have young children and would like to know what equipment is available for our children?

We can provide high chair, potty, travel cot or bed guard for very small guests and also have various sledges which you are welcome to borrow in order to transport those tired legs. We may also be able to arrange a babysitting service so you can enjoy a night off.

What type of ski pass would you recommend?

This is entirely dependent on your ski level and how much you like to cruise. As a general rule we would suggest the following:
                Complete beginner – group lessons with pass included in package.
                Intermediate – Discovery pass (La plagne pass with 1 day in Les Arcs included)
                Great to explore a new resort.
                Strong intermediate\expert – Full Paradiski pass (La Plagne & Les Arcs).
